What setup installs
- A background service that runs your game servers under its own low-rights account. It starts with Windows, so servers run whether or not anyone's signed in.
- A small helper that installs signed updates and makes Windows Firewall rules for your game servers and for remote access. It only does those two things.
- The app, to manage servers on this PC and on other Windows PCs you pair with it. The command line tool comes with it.
Setup asks for administrator rights once, to install the service and the helper. The setup file isn't code signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn about it. Pick More info, then Run anyway.
Updates
The service looks for a new version a couple of minutes after it starts and once a day after that. When there is one, the app shows it on Home. Installing it checks the download against Natchland's signature, swaps the new version in and starts the servers that were running again. If the new version won't start, the old one comes back.
Linux
ComingIt's built and has run on Ubuntu 24.04, with the same setup, service and signed updates as Windows. Rust installs there but hasn't been started on Linux yet. The public release is coming.
macOS
ComingThe Mac version is coming. Rust and 7 Days to Die have no macOS server, so on a Mac you'll manage those on another machine. Hytale's own server does run on macOS.
